A digital archive is a repository of digital media, namely audio and video, that a company or individual may desire to keep for a longer time in storage. The media department of any organization would like to store selected audio/video files for reference in future.

Such files are usually large in storage size and require separate storage (like a SAN) for archiving.

In the media department, lots of events are organized, producing many images and videos. These may go through a workflow process for review by different reviewers, and only a selected few are finally approved. Only these selected files are archived with the associated metadata, to avoid unnecessary consumption of storage space.
